While it may be the most wonderful time of the year, it’s also one of the riskiest! The number of home fires heat up (get it?) during this time of year and the holiday season is like, well, Christmas to thieves. Help keep your family, your gifts, and your home protected with these holiday safety tips.
- Light Right. Don’t let your holiday decorations bring hazards to your house. Plan your décor display in advance to avoid overloading outlets and stringing more than the manufacturer-recommended number of light strands together.
- Candle Care. We love holiday-scented candles just as much as you, but be careful! Make sure you keep candles away from flammable materials and blow them out at night.
- Beat Burglaries. Trick thieves into thinking you’re home for the holidays by leaving a light on a timer in a prominent window and having your mail collected when you’re out of town.
- Tree Talk. Make sure your tree is more than just a giant piece of kindling by choosing a fresh one! Look for one with needles that resist being pulled off and don’t break when bent between your fingers.
